マーガレットキルガレンへのオマージュ

34歳で夭折した女性アーティスト、マーガレット・キルガレンへのオマージュ作品です。
高校生のときに雑誌で知り、その力強いロゴと独特の世界観が
強烈なインパクトとして記憶に残りました。

正直に白状すると影響を受けたという訳ではないのですが
その後、ビューティフル・ルーザーズというドキュメンタリー作品も見たりして
私の心のどこかには常に彼女の幻影が居るという状態でした。

それはつまり「いつか彼女のような作品を自分も描かねばならない」
という自分が自分に宿題を課したような状態でした。

今回オマージュ作品を作ることで、私の心の中にあった彼女の存在を
ようやく沈静化できたような気がします。
作品を描くことで彼女の作品と向き合い、
彼女の作品の素晴らしさと、力強さに気づくことが出来ました。

本作品を描き終えて、ようやく宿題を片付けた安堵感が湧きました。
私の心の中にいた彼女の幻影は、ようやく旅立っていきました。

The work is a tribute to Margaret Kilgallen, a female artist who died prematurely at the age of 34.
I was introduced to it in a magazine when I was in high school, and its powerful logo and unique world view left a strong impact on my memory.

I confess that I wasn’t really influenced by it.
But afterwards, I also watched a documentary film called Beautiful Loosers.
I always had a vision of her somewhere in my mind.

That is to say, I set myself a homework assignment: “Someday I must paint a work like hers”.
I had set myself a homework assignment.

By creating this tribute work, I feel that I was finally able to subside her presence in my mind.
By drawing the work, I confronted her work,
I was able to realise how wonderful and powerful her work is.

When I finished drawing this piece, I felt a sense of relief that I had finally done my homework.
The vision of her in my mind had finally departed.
